I’d like to tell you a little bit about a Dr. Ben…Ben Carson, that is. You know the guy I’m talking about, right? The retired neurosurgeon who worked his magic at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and who was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by former President George W. Bush back in 2008…the guy who dissed and made an absolute laughingstock of current White House Dweller, Barak Obama, at the National Prayer Breakfast a few years ago. The guy who now has a Draft Ben Carson for President Committee that recently outraised a Draft Hillary Clinton for President Committee? tYeah, that guy. That Dr. Ben Carson.
The Dr. Ben Carson, who according to myth and legend, endorsed Maryland GOP Gubernatorial Candidate, Charles Lollar, awhile back. What? He didn’t endorse Lollar? Is that what I’m hearing…?
Well, it’s not what I’m hearing – at least not firsthand – but it’s something I heard a few days ago.
On April 9th, Carson spoke at the Weinberg Center Stage as a part of a Frederick, MD, speaker’s series. And, it was there that Carson apparently told GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Ron George and George’s running mate, Shelley Aloi, that he (Carson) had never given Charles Lollar his endorsement. According to my source, Carson went on to say that he supports anyone’s desire to run for office. That, he said, was “not an official endorsement.” what that IS, is smart politics – the whole bit about supporting anyone’s desire to run without offering an endorsement. (And, lest we forget, Ben Carson is nobody’s fool – he’s a retired brain surgeon, for God’s sake!)
Anyway, I tried to get Ron George on the record concerning what Carson had said, and all I received in return was his campaign telling me that “Ron and Shelley were with Ben Carson but had no comment.”
So, then I also asked Charles Lollar – as in, I sent him the following question:
Hey,Charles. I hope this finds you well! Ben Carson was allegedly overheard telling people at the Weinberg Theater last night that he never officially endorsed your candidacy for Governor. Do you have any comment? Thanks! Joe
(Allegedly, was overheard denying endorsing ANYONE for Governor…
I’ve yet to hear a response from Lollar, but then Lollar has yet to see the above message I sent him. So, I went on his campaign website (Yes, it’s up and works just fine!) and didn’t see any press release or statement in which Lollar is touting Ben Carson’s endorsement…which leads me to believe it didn’t happen. Because, you better believe, were I Charles Lollar or Larry Hogan or Ron George or even, I don’t know – Joe Steffen – and Ben Carson had endorsed me, I’d be all over that endorsement.
Additionally, the only way to contact Ben Carson is through some speaker’s bureau. If I get an answer from/through them regarding this conundrum, I will do a follow-up piece.
Until and unless that happens, whatever…my question is as follows: If Ben Carson didn’t endorse Charles Lollar, why is it almost accepted as gospel that he did? Could it have something to do with this email that the Lollar campaign sent out last month?
“I have the distinct honor of announcing to you today that Dr. Ben Carson has decided to support my campaign for Governor of our great state of Maryland – not just with words, but by digging deep into his own pocket to help us financially.
He wants you to know that he has just given my campaign the maximum donation of $4,000.”
And, yet, a very good source tells me that s/he overheard Carson personally telling Ron George that he (Carson) did not officially endorse anyone.
What the Hell’s going on here?
