I get back home after picking up some Royal Farms ® chicken for lunch and what do I find in my email inbox?
A personalized (by first name, anyway) email from the Hogan/Rutherford gubernatorial run team asking me if I’m interested in a “unique opportunity” to do some volunteer work for them.
I’d be more interested in them dropping 1,000 fire ants down my pants. A ‘unique volunteer opportunity’ – are you kidding me?
Judging from the email sent to me by Hannah Marr, in particular Larry Hogan is looking for “knowledgeable Marylanders” to help spread his message of refusing to answer simple questions such as “What is the purpose of government?” Or, something along those lines, anyway – at least that’s what I read when I read the following verbatim quote from the body of what they sent me:
“We can win the fight for Maryland’s future this November, but we need the grassroots support of knowledgeable Marylanders like you to help us spread our message and secure the support of a diverse array of voters.”
The only thing I’m going to volunteer to do is help spread disdain about their message and their messaging. As far as getting people to talk about Larry Hogan’s dry-twerking the voters, that’s all on them. Or, at least not on me. And, you would think that with all that money Larry Hoogan’s got to throw around, they’d have someone who could clean up their email lists to ensure that people like me STOP receiving pleas for help from them.

Anyway, here’s the email they sent me, in full and word for word:

Thanks for your support!
Thank you for your support of the Hogan-Rutherford campaign. You are receiving this message because you have previously indicated your support for our efforts, either through signing up to become a volunteer, requesting a bumper sticker, or voicing your support on our social media channels.
We would like to invite you to participate in a unique volunteering opportunity for our most engaged supporters!
As you may know, our campaign to change Maryland began with a Facebook page. Since then it has grown into the largest and fastest growing movement in the state dedicated to bringing fiscal restraint & common sense to Annapolis. Through the innovative use of social media, we have cultivated a community of over 86,000 Republicans, Independents, and Democrats who are committed to changing Maryland for the better.
Social media is a unique tool that CAN have a real impact on this year’s election. By participating in the discussion in our online community, you can communicate with real people in our state about why Maryland needs a change and why you believe the Hogan-Rutherford campaign is the best chance our state has to reverse the debilitating damage the O’Malley-Brown administration has had on our economy.
We can win the fight for Maryland’s future this November, but we need the grassroots support of knowledgeable Marylanders like you to help us spread our message and secure the support of a diverse array of voters.
If you would like to learn more about this volunteer opportunity, please join us for a Google Hangout on Thursday, May 1 at 8 pm. There you will hear from our social media team about what you can do to get started. To register for the Hangout, click here.
If you are not interested in this volunteer opportunity, no further action is required. We thank you for your support!
