There are no more quiet days any longer, are there? Even yesterday and carrying over into earlier today proved to be rather loud, in a manner of speaking. And, it all centers around two of Maryland’s Pro-life groups.
You would think that if anything, the idea of abortion – and who’s basically pro-choice versus who’s more or less pro-life would be fairly cut and dried. At least it should be when it comes to making endorsements based upon pro-life credentials such as votes and statements.
Yesterday, I read my fellow blogger Jeff Quinton’s piece on the fact that Maryland Right to Life put out its list of endorsements. In his piece, Quinton made specific mention of the fact that MDRTL endorsed Senator David Brinkley for re-election, in which Quinton wrote:
“MDRTL also endorsed incumbent Senator David Brinkley over Delegate Mike Hough in the primary for Brinkley’s senate seat…” Quinton’s entire piece can be found here: http://www.quintonreport.com/, in which can be found a link to the actual MDRTL list of endorsements.
Anyway, last night I found myself talking with a very well connected political insider – and I told said insider of the MDRTL endorsements, including the fact that the organization had endorsed Brinkley.
This insider responded to me by saying that s/he’d heard that a pro-life group had – the very day that Brinkley received his endorsement from MDRTL – sent out a letter via email in which this pro-life group had awarded David Brinkley with their annual “Pro-Abort Legislator of the Year Award.” I laughed.
This morning, s/he forwarded me the email s/he’d received from the Maryland Pro-Life Alliance and, sure enough, there it was – in living black and white:
Today Maryland Pro-Life Alliance selected Senator David Brinkley (R-District 4) to receive our “Pro-Abort Legislator of the Year Award.”
To top it off, the Maryland Pro-Life Alliance, closed its email-letter by stating:
“He’s (Brinkley’s) done more than enough to earn our 2014 Pro-Abort Legislator of the Year Award!
Diane E. Hussey
Maryland Pro-Life Alliance
P.S. Voters in District 4 need to know the TRUTH about Senator David Brinkley’s pro-abort, non-leadership on protecting unborn babies.”
The MD Pro-Life Alliance release can be found in its entirety at the following link:
(I wish you pro-life groups would make up your mind…)
Now, I’m not a single issue voter. But, still, there’s got to be something blatantly wrong with this particular matter as concerns David Brinkley. Hell, these groups go well beyond saying he’s pro-life or pro-abortion when one of them endorses the guy for re-election and the other group awards him their award as the “pro-abort legislator of the year award.” It’s quite the conundrum, don’t you think? Well, I’d imagine it would be if the issue of abortion is a big one for you.
Think about it: You’re a single issue voter on abortion – or abortion is a major issue with you – and as you walk into the voting booth in District 4 (where Brinkley’s running for Senate against the conservative Michael Hough) what do you do? Are you going to vote for Michael Hough or are you going to vote for David Brinkley, the guy who got endorsed by MDRTL but who also just became the recipient of the MD Pro-Life Alliance’s “Pro-Abort” award?
See what I mean?
