The other day, a group of us are having lunch when the conversation – about politics in general – turns to politics in specific. Much to my chagrin, and instantly adding a dose of nausea to my general health, someone asks me what I happen to think of former Transportation Secretary and one time Delegate, Bob Flanagan.
As I rolled my eyes, someone else at the lunch piped in by asking, “Isn’t he the one who looks like a cancer survivor?”
At that point, chuckling mildly, I answered by saying “(Flanagan’s) Another Bob Ehrlich retread.” And, then, I said something along the lines of “Yeah, in a way he looks like that.” Now, I have no idea whether Bob Flanagan IS a cancer survivor or not, but if he is, I’d like to congratulate him on beating it and wish for him that it doesn’t return.
As concerns my “Another Bob Ehrlich retread,” comment – I’m sorry, but that’s the way I see him – just as that’s the way I see Larry Hogan in his run for Governor. You see, it’s almost as if the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” is being played on a perpetual loop – and the Empire will continue striking back until it strikes out. That much is obvious.
Thankfully, at least as far as Bob Flanagan is concerned, there exists an excellent opportunity to do away with this part in the Empire’s attempt to rebuild itself…and her name is Carol Loveless, Flanagan’s opponent in the GOP primary for the newly drawn Legislative District of 9B (Ellicott City).
Carol Loveless, who is running against Flanagan in that GOP primary, is a self-described Constitutionalist. She is also the owner of a small business. And I caught up with her today on social media.
At the prodding of a few questions I asked her, Loveless told me that her race is “Going very well” – so well, in fact that despite the fact that Flanagan “had a lot of name recognition. I think I will win… If I can knock on more doors I am certain of it.”
Carol Loveless added that people with whom she’s spoken like the fact that she’s a business owner and that it seems that “A lot of people don’t realize we are ruining against each other. We are a newly drawn district so people are used to two delegates. Now we are a single member (district).”
Now, of course, Carol Loveless is not being supported by the establishment – as in the local Central Committee. But, she has been endorsed by 6th District GOP Congressional Candidate and National Firebrand, Dan Bongino. Yet, more reasons to vote for her…
(Two of my fave GOPers: Mr. Rand and Ms. Carol)
I asked her, as well, whether Bob Flanagan has ever engaged her in any way during the course of the campaign, to which she replied that he has not other than near the beginning to say that they would each run a clean campaign.
Lovely, Ms. Loveless!
The only advice I have for Ms. Loveless at present is to remember that you are dealing with someone in Bob Flanagan who is trying to rebuild the Empire – and, believe me when I tell you that I know how the “Empire” plays…which is usually any way but clean or fair. Not saying that Mr. Flanagan is or will play that way, but be on the lookout…
The other comment I’d like to make here is to reiterate what I said earlier in this piece – that we can fully expect the Empire to keep striking back until it strikes out to end the game. It is that simple. And that frightening. Because, how in the Hell is the MDGOP expected to move forward with all of these retreads insisting on running? It can’t. Not really, anyway – not unless their apple carts are all upset one by one.
And here, in 9B, the GOP Primary voters have a great chance and a great reason in Carol Loveless to do just that.
