Well, the sky didn’t fall.
Nothing crashed to earth or exploded. Nor did anyone drop dead, but the Maryland Liberty PAC Picnic of May 25 has come and gone and the only thing that happened was that a bunch of liberty loving Marylanders had a damned good time.
I say this because of all the angst and horror with which a few MDGOP regulars and party hacks approached me in reaction to the news upon hearing that Nicolee Ambrose would be speaking at said picnic. One discussion thrust upon me in particular was ridiculously outrageous and babyish. Regardless, Ambrose did speak at this picnic…
And, it was a damned rocking speech she gave, too.
A few of the highlights include…
**Ms. Ambrose opened her remarks by giving a shout out to Gordon Bull and Greg Johnson for their resolution against HB 1513 at the recent MDGOP Convention. (Mr. Bull is a candidate for the House of Delegates in LD 12, I just endorsed him a few columns ago).
**She touted the successes of her “Super Saturday Program” – in which she organizes door to door efforts in finely targeted precincts, and requested the continued support and help of those in the Maryland Liberty movement. She also thanked them for all of their help to date in the previous “Super Saturday” endeavors.
**She talked about the “Rules” battles of, and recent partial successes at, the most recent National Republican meeting in Memphis, TN. Additionally, she stressed how important these battles will be in leading up to the next national GOP Convention in 2016.
**Speaking of “national” GOP politics, she mentioned the name “Rand Paul” to thunderous applause, adding that she’s been working closely with some key players on Senator Paul’s team to both unify the party as well as to continue pushing reasonable measures to effect change in the area of Rules and GOP policies. She also stated that Rand Paul appears to be running a flawless campaign to date and that he says and does all of the right things. “How can anyone disagree” with Senator Paul whenever he speaks, she asked.
(Although not there in person, Nicolee Ambrose Invoked the Spirit of Rand Paul at Sunday’s MD Liberty PAC Picnic)
**She then called for unity among the MDGOP as an entity and the MD Campaign for Liberty between the Primary and November by saying, “Have fun campaigning but, post-Primary, please choose your favorite GOP nominees and work your hearts out for them.”
**She began her close by talking about an event she’s having at her house on May 29 for Bill Campbell, MDGOP candidate for Comptroller.
**Finally, she talked about Memorial Day and gave yours truly a very nice – and unnecessary – shout out for a piece I wrote two days ago which can be found here, if you’re interested: https://darknessrevisited.wordpress.com/2014/05/24/memorial-day/
And, that was it. More or less.
Also attending the Maryland Campaign for Liberty PAC picnic (which was held at Oregon Ridge) was the MDGOP’s First Vice Chair, Collins Bailey, as well as GOP candidate for Baltimore County Executive, Tony Campbell, the latter of which was whipping a football around with great grace, aplomb and accuracy. That Campbell-guy’s got a Hell of an arm.
In addition, I met some people for the first time: Robert Willick, a candidate for the Cecil County Council, Christina Trotta, a die-hard activist of great talent and Dave Pridgeon, a man accustomed to being the recipient of all sorts of slings and arrows. It was both an honor and a pleasure, good people!
Lastly, I spoke with this guy named Leo Dymowski. You want to blame one person for getting me involved in politics? Blame Leo. It was way, way back…late 1981… Anyway, Leo is now a candidate for MD Attorney General.
I had a blast – seeing any number of good friends (Patrick Hussey, Patrick McGrady, John Lerch to name a few), and making some new ones.
And Nicolee Ambrose’s speech rocked.
