I thought that the MDGOP held a “unity event.” Hell, actually I know they did because I attended it – along with a good number of my closest friends and assorted “others.”
Someone should remind the MDGOP that they’d held this unity event, however – because the “unity” celebrated at said event has already been breached – and by a few of the MDGOP’s establishment candidates, no less.
Case in Point, Numero Uno:
Meet Yvonne Baldwin, a one time, MDGOP establishment “party pick” to take on incumbent Democrat, Dion Guthrie, for Harford County’s District A Council Seat. Well, that’s all fine and dandy, except for the fact that Ms. Baldwin – of whom it has been reported got into the race at the behest of Delegate Rick Impallaria (R-7) – lost her race to Mike Perrone, a Liberty type GOPer who was a very early supporter of the Campaign for Liberty.
It has been told to me that Ms. Baldwin is “not really savvy.” Judging from the email that Dion Guthrie sent out in which he proudly proclaims the support of his one-time rival, the vanquished, Ms. Baldwin, I’d have to say “not really savvy” barely begins to cover it.
For the record, I first met Dion Guthrie back in 1996 when he was part of the anti-Ehrlich protestor brigade who used to picket in front of then-Congressman Bob Ehrlich’s campaign office in Lutherville on behalf of Ehrlich’s 1996 Congressional opponent, Designated Democrat Loser, Connie DeJuliis. Dion Guthrie’s a pretty nice guy, despite his union (IBEW) ties, and I, in no way, blame him for putting out this email. But, I do blame the Impallaria-backed Ms. Baldwin for offering her support to Mr. Guthrie because she just lost to another Republican in a Republican Primary. Party Unity, huh? Hi, Dion, I hope you’re doing well – and I hope you lose.
Here’s the email:
(Feel the MDGOP’s Party Unity! THAT’s the Message I’m Getting from this Democrat’s email!)
The second such instance of MDGOP party disunity can best be summed up as: Michael Peroutka versus Larry Hogan and Steve “The Rape Whisperer” Schuh.
And, this will be the last time I mention The Rape Whisper, other than to say he is unsure of whether he will back Peroutka’s bid to be elected to the Anne Arundel County Council. The reason for me not mentioning him again? I’m lazy and don’t feel like having to wash my keyboard as a result of me invoking him continually on it today. He is, after all, the ultimate in misogynistic sleaze – The Rape Whisperer.
But, what about Larry Hogan? Why is the MDGOP candidate for Governor involved in the Peroutka imbroglio? Well, Hogan has “completely disavowed” the GOP candidate for AACO’s 5th District because Peroutka is, well, just because! On top of that (depending on whom you care to listen to) Peroutka’s also a theocrat, a racist, a constitutional scholar and a teacher of the constitution via his group the Institute on the Constitution and a Christian Reconstructionist. According to Walter Olson, Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute, Peroutka’s a “wackypants, anti-gay, crusader.”
I don’t care. If the MDGOP doesn’t want to actually help Michael Peroutka, that’s fine I guess, but then at least let him live or die on his own. For Larry Hogan to completely disavow him is ludicrous to the extreme…
According to various sources, the real reason for the MDGOP distancing itself from Peroutka is the fact that he belongs to an organization called The League of the South. Are they radical? The Southern Poverty Law Center thinks so – calls them a “hate group,” actually. Whenever the SPLC goes insane with their name calling and finger pointing, that’s a plus for me as concerns their target. The SPLC IS the largest hate group in the country, bar none.
Still, – having checked The League of the South’s website – nowhere did I see anything about them wanting to lynch or tar and feather black folk. Nor are they advocating child rape or any other such nonsense that would preclude anyone associated with them, from being eligible for elective office. What I did find, however, was talk of secession – and for anyone who wants to call that idea insane or racist, may I ask you “What the Hell did the original colonies do as concerns Great Britain?”
I don’t know Michael Peroutka – and, frankly, I don’t really care what happens to him in his race for Council. But, what I do care about is how the MDGOP can claim it’s all about unity and yet have some name players going completely off the reservation and, why? – in the case of Peroutka – because some Democratic Hacks Demand that Hogan disassociate from him?
Let’s hear Larry Hogan demand that everyone now unify behind his campaign for Governor! Sound’s ridiculous…and more than a bit hypocritical right now, doesn’t it?
