Jeannie Haddaway for Congress!
Well, no, not exactly. Not yet, anyway. But, that didn’t stop her erstwhile fan, Photographer to the political stars, Builder of excellent websites and Campaign Manager to Delegate Kelly Schulz, Phil Tran, from building a website designed to get folks to draft Delegate (and former candidate for LG on David Craig’s Gubernatorial ticket) Jeannie Haddaway Riccio to run for Congress in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District. Mr. Tran’s website on Mrs. Haddaway-Riccio’s behalf may be found here:
Well, considering you can check the site out for itself, I’ll not go into details here. Suffice it to say, however, that the website is very well done – and is certain to catch some eyes and potentially raise some hackles. Why hackles? Because, GOP Congressman Andy Harris already sits as CD 1’s current Congressman…and Haddaway-Riccio, like Harris, is also a Republican.
The thing is, it was a FB Post by Delegate Kelly Schulz that helped to bring this website about. A few weeks ago, Delegate Schulz wrote the following:
“Interesting conversation on the Eastern Shore. Congressman Andy Harris proposed legislation for term limits – 3 terms. He is looking to be re-elected this fall to his third term. Does he honor his position and step aside in 2016? Does Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio run for that seat?”
Well, according to Phil Tran, if Harris does indeed do as his proposed legislation calls for and, whether it’s law or not, voluntarily removes himself from office, he wants Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio to more or less smooth herself right into the seat.
And, from what I’ve been told by a few folks, Mrs. Haddaway-Riccio called Congressman Harris two days ago about the website – to assure him she was in no way responsible for it coming into being. I guess she was expecting Andy Harris to be upset by the site’s mere existence or something.
Anyway, I like the site. A lot. And, so, as a result of me liking the site a lot, I sent Phil Tran a message – asking him what feedback he’s been getting on the site to date. Mr. Tran told me: “The feedback has been positive. People are excited about Jeannie’s possible future in Congress, U.S. Senate, or the Government House.”
In further conversation, I asked him what was Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio’s response to the site. Tran told me that she had not yet been in contact with him – meaning that she did not talk with Tran following her conversation with Andy Harris…meaning she’s in no hurry to have the website removed.
(I get the feeling she quite likes the idea of being drafted for Congress…)
All of this is fine and dandy to everyone who has an ounce of common sense. But, the question is begged, what does David Warren have against Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio?
David Warren, who told me weeks ago that he is “running” Andy Harris’ Victory Center – well, actually, the MDGOP Victory Centers, paid for by Harris, has been allegedly trying to talk Mrs. Haddaway-Riccio into running for MDGOP National Committeewoman against the popular incumbent, Nicolee Ambrose. That’s a suicide mission.
If Haddaway-Riccio runs against Ambrose, Haddaway-Riccio will lose – and likely lose in a big way. Something tells me that she is far too smart to throw away her political future by getting beaten in a NCW race. At least I hope she is.
Especially with this “Draft Jeannie” for Congress movement that is already out there. And, especially if/when Andy Harris acts on his convictions.
Full Disclosure: Nicolee Ambrose is a friend of mine. And, like Jeannie as I do, there is no question whom I’ll be supporting in the NCW race.
