On a day in which a poll is released showing MDGOP Gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan trailing MD Dem Gubernatorial candidate, the brain dead (Seriously, just look in his eyes, There’s barely any signs of life in them, much less any form of intelligence) Anthony Brown, I’ve decided that the blog I was going to post a week ago, but which was bumped to honor the late John Lofton, is not being bumped again for the Horse race the MD Governor’s Race has allegedly become. Anyway…
Maryland Senate Candidate Don Quinn’s birthday was September 19th. I know this because I got one of those Facebook ticklers that remind you whose birthday it is and when and, Hell, you know what I’m talking about.
Anyway, I sent Don Quinn a message wishing him a “Happy Birthday!” And he wrote me back immediately, thanking me for the birthday wish – and then he wrote me back again. In his second message, Mr. Quinn stated:
“BTW loved your rants against Ray Rice – anyone who hits a woman is scum and I am glad you took it upon yourself to point that out. It’s one thing I want changed in the legislature.”
Well, that is certainly a far cry from what the aforementioned Democratic Gubernatorial candidate, Anthony Brown had to say about Mr. Rice. Brown was once quoted as saying, “My favorite is actually Ray Rice.”
Mr. Quinn, who is running for State Senate in District 30 against old-time Democrat war horse, John Astle – and by old-time, I mean ancient, decrepit and, yet, he will likely still outlive me (Astle was first elected in 1982) – was referring to all of the memes I’d posted on my Facebook page as well as all of my anti-Ray Rice Facebook posts in response to Rice’s punching out and knocking out his former fiancée and now wife, Janay.
I responded back to Quinn, asking him if he was looking at sponsoring legislation. Here is his response…
“Yes. Domestic violence is an under addressed issue in this state and across the country. It crosses all boundaries and there are thousands of cases right here in AACo. We must do a better job of training police to recognize it and have stiffer penalties for perpetrators.”
(Rice: I hate Don Quinn. He wants to make it harder for people like me to be people like me…)
You go, Don Quinn! Stiffer penalties for perpetrators – on that front, I couldn’t agree more. And, hopefully, this is a trend, or a wave – whichever you prefer, that will make the rounds across the nation: And this is a part of what Ray Rice hath wrought: If you’re going to abuse a woman, the repercussions will HURT. Make it HURT. A lot.
So, as the NFL continues what I hope is its slow burn into oblivion and as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Ravens Owner and General Manager, Steve Biscotti and Ozzie Newsome, respectively, all try to outdo each other to see who can get deeper into the gutter and cover things up the best, it’s almost lost on everyone out here in the peanut gallery what prompted all of this NFL shakedown:
That some two bit scumbag thug knocked his wife out in an elevator one night 7 plus months ago.
And in Maryland, should he be elected, Don Quinn at least wants to make legislative changes to increase the penalties for two bit thugs such as Ray Rice.
So, while Don Quinn is looking at ways to make penalties stiffer for these two-bit thugs, what’s his ancient competitor doing? Probably planning his next safari to Africa. For John Astle to question Mr. Quinn’s integrity, as he did in today’s Baltimore Sun, is so far beyond the pale as to be laughable.
