What was that great line from the movie, “Risky Business?” You know the one I’m talking about…Sometimes you’ve just got to say “What the F*ck?”
I had one of those moments last night.
As most everyone in the world knows by now, erstwhile good guy, former candidate for both the US Senate and for the US Congress in the 6th CD, Dan Bongino, is leaving Maryland for the Sunny east coast of Florida.
Dan had called me the night before last, a call I missed, to tell me the news…which I found out about on Facebook about 5 to 10 minutes before I returned his call last night…upon seeing his number on my cellphone as “having called.”
I wished – and wish – Dan well in his and his family’s new endeavors down South.
And, then I got to thinking…does Maryland have any idea what it’s losing with Dan Bongino moving to Florida in a month or two? The great “Free State” is losing a lightning rod for conservative causes. It’s losing an orator of spellbinding ability as well as an impeccable wordsmith and, perhaps most importantly, Maryland is losing a gracious, passionate and compassionate man whose skills and abilities, I believe, have barely scratched the surface of his potential.
Further, does the MDGOP have any clue as to what it has just let slip through its fingers? I don’t know…but something tells me that the establishmentarians running the party either A) Don’t care, or B) are Jumping up and clicking their heels upon hearing of Mr. Bongino’s imminent departure. Of course they are. I mean, Larry Hogan gets elected Governor last November, so that makes everything all right with the world forever and a day, right? Uh, no, it doesn’t. It really doesn’t…and if you believe that it does, well, all that shows is your own personal myopia.
Whatever. Or, more aptly, “What the f*ck?”
Anyway, I guess it was Frank Defillipo who, on the old Ron Smith show on WBAL Radio, once said of former GOP Governor, Bobby Ehrlich, that Ehrlich was the “the right man in the wrong state.”
What destroyed Ehrlich in the end was a wickedly bad combination of his own ego and inability to react or admit that he’d sold out to the Democratic power structure in Maryland. Appease, appease, appease…and end up on your knees.
Dan Bongino – now HE was the right man in the wrong state. He’s certainly got the battle scars to prove it.
I have no idea whether he plans on running for office while in Florida. Hell, outside of continuing his podcasts (which already rank 33rd out of 150,000 podcasts on ITunes), I don’t know what he’s going to do.
All I know is that a friend of mine is moving to Florida.
God Speed, Bonginos!
