Since former MD Governor, Democrat Martin O’Malley, joined the other former MD Governor, (is he still a?) Republican Bobby Ehrlich – who’s lost in the sea of GOP faces – in the race for President, 2016, a handful of folks have asked me what I plan on saying about O’Malley concerning what went down a decade ago this year involving yours truly.
Knowing the ideology and the political penchant of these folks, I can all but guarantee that they, to a person, were expecting/hoping that I’d be coming after O’Malley with both barrels with whatever choice words I’d have to say and/or write to and/or about him.
Well, what I’m going to say concerning me being set up by O’Malley Incorporated is this: Nothing.
Now, if you know the story, great – if not, look it up on Google. In a nutshell, I was accused of spreading rumors about O’Malley’s love life – yet a quick reading of the very talk threads upon which these accusations were based clearly shows me, posting as NCPAC on Free Republic, telling the guy who set me up, MDBush, to stay away from talking about the (then) Mayor’s personal life. Nonetheless, the story broke the day after I was interviewed by a reporter from the Washington Post – Matthew Mosque was his name, I think.
And, I resigned as soon as Mosque left my office. Why did I resign if I didn’t spread the rumors? Well, I resigned because of a lot of things I DID do, previously, that’s why. I didn’t want to put Governor Ehrlich in a bad light, or at least into as little a bad light as possible. Imagine my shock and chagrin upon realizing that I’d spent the previous decade or more targeting people for, and defending, a pantywaist.
I call Bobby Ehrlich a pantywaist at this point in time because it sounds so much nicer than the word, “liar” – which is exactly what Ehrlich had his minions do to me for the next year or so: lie. Promises of this, that and the other were regularly made to me with reckless abandon.
Anyway, regardless of how I might feel/think about Bobby Ehrlich – which is sadness and embarrassment for him more than anything else – I hold no ill-will towards O’Malley and/or his people for setting me up. They did what they SHOULD HAVE done. The hit they put on me was spectacular and spectacularly successful. And, it was aided every step of the way when, in its aftermath, the Ehrlich Administration more or less wrote the damned book on what not to do in a crisis. They couldn’t have handled things any worse had they been promised a million dollars each to do so. Hey! Speaking of promises, Bobby…
The main reason I hold no ill will is as follows: For the longest time over the previous (to 2005) 23 years, I was the guy in the shooter’s seat… taking out the opposition as they popped up. I WAS him…so I couldn’t hold a grudge or even get angry when he turned it around on me, now could I? Nope. It’s all in the business of politics and campaigning. I nailed a shitload of them, one of them nailed me – end of story. But, I did get a great and grand nickname out of it all, now, didn’t I?
A friend of mine told me way back when that I was going to be remembered as the General Custer of MD (and elsewhere)Politics. All anyone remembers about Custer, they said, is his massacre at Little Big Horn. No one recalls any of his countless successes that came prior.
I’ll take that comparison any day of the week.

Now, as concerns the fact that Ehrlich and O’Malley are each running for President in their respective party primaries, regarding the former – please, don’t make me laugh. The original “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” Ended – what? – 39 years ago. As concerns the latter, don’t chuckle.
And, if you do want to chuckle, remember that at this stage of the game in 1991 leading up to the 1992 Presidential election, folks were chuckling, if not guffawing, at the thought of a President Bill Clinton.
The rest of America doesn’t know Governor (as opposed to politician/campaigner) Martin O’Malley like Maryland does. And as Hillary Clinton continues to implode, what other choice to Democrats currently have? Bernie Sanders? Please…I WISH the Dems would nominate that psycho.
As of right now, I see Martin O’Malley getting the DEM Presidential nomination. And, if he does, contrary to the best interests of the country, all bets are off.
Believe me, I know.
