To begin with, this post might be a bit of a disappointment to some folks who were expecting or, perhaps, hoping for a continuation of some personal nastiness I endured on Facebook the other day. Sorry to disappoint you, but there are serious topics to talk about – and one is Frederick’s Delegate Kelly Schulz http://www.delegateschulz.com/ .
Running in the revamped District 4 with her fellow incumbent GOPer, Kathy Afzali – well not with her, but they are each running for reelection at the same time, Delegate Schulz has wholeheartedly endorsed her fellow Republican, Wendi Peters http://www.wendipeters.com/meet-wendi/, whom Schulz calls a “great gal,” for at least one of the Delegate seats.
Whither Ms. Afzali? I didn’t ask Delegate Schulz what she thought of Kathy Afzali, partly because I don’t really care about Kathy Afzali (as in whether she wins or not) – and also because the good Delegate told me right off the bat in our messaging/conversation that she was dealing with a “busy day.” All I can tell you, and I have told other people this, is that the only two running for Delegate in the 4th District I’d vote for are Kelly Schulz and her compatriot, Wendi Peters, whom I first met something like 20 years ago right around the time Bob Ehrlich was gearing up for his first Congressional run. I think Wendi worked for the same law firm as did Ehrlich.
I then asked Delegate Schulz what was her take on the Senate race in which Delegate Mike Hough (who now represents 3B) has announced he is leaving the House of Delegates and taking on long time Senator, David Brinkley, in the GOP Primary.
“I have always been a Brinkley supporter,” Schulz replied. “I used to work with him as a LA. I think his departure from the Senate would be a big defeat for Frederick County.”
She added, however, that “the only good part about Michael Hough running for Senate is I am now free to endorse anyone I want for his open seat. Wendi has always been on my top priority list.”
(She’s Delegate Kelly Schulz, and you’re not…)
So, one of my favorite elected officials of all time, ever – is working like religion with Wendi Peters, just endorsed her on 2/25, and is openly supporting Senator Brinkley for reelection. As for me, however, (forgive me, Delegate Schulz!), I am strongly leaning towards Michael Hough if for no other reason that he chose the right side in supporting MDGOP National Committeewoman, Nicolee Ambrose over the defeated Audrey Scott a few years back. That and the fact that David Brinkley voted for Governor O’Malley’s budget will do it to me every time.
But, none of that changes the fact that Kelly Schulz remains one of my favorite politicos ever – See I can deal with people having opinions and ideas other than mine! – and I thank her very much for her time.
